Singapore-based mother-of-two Li Ming prepares incredibly creative lunches for her
sons, Ivan (10) and Lucas (7) that feature all the cartoon and comic book characters a
kid could dream of, including Hello Kitty, Mario, Spiderman, Mickey Mouse, and
Totoro.
Ming says she draws inspiration from just about anything, though she attributes a good
portion of her finished product to ideas suggested by her sons. It seems fitting, given that
her creation of charabens (character boxes) began when Ivan was having trouble coping
with being away from his mother. "He refused to go to school and cried everyday - he was
not used to the longer hours and missed me. I packed him charabens with written messages
to make him feel more secure," says Ming. It wasn't long after that little Lucas decided he wanted in on the cute lunches.
